What is your preferred method of listening to MD in your car

I'm new to MD (waiting for my MZ-NH1 to arrive), but I was curious how you utilize MD technology in your car. Do you simply use headphones with your walkman? Do you somehow run it into your car stereo (if so, how are you accomplishing this)? Do you have a line in on your stereo? Do you use some kind of FM modulator (that is what I have for my CD player)? Other ways of listening in your car?

I have a basic cassette player in my vehicle with no line in. What options would you recommend in this scenario? The FM modulator is not very good quality and hard to deal with, but the cassette things you can buy for a line in doesn't work with my stereo, it kicks out the cassette. I guess I need to wire a line in for direct hookup of my MD unit.

Sort of a silly question but we need something to discuss while we patiently wait for the release! :cool:

Well using headphones is probably against the law in most places, but there are several way to get MD sound in-car. You should try a search as I'm sure it has been covered before.

Quickly I can think of the following: Dedicated MD unit/MD changer; or you can use a portable or (controller+changer) with the following... AUX in on HU, AUX in adapter for HU (either factory or aftermarket HUs), cassette adapter, FM Modulator and an FM "Trasmitter" (wireless thingys).

They pretty much go in that order of preference, IMO.

Though having a dedicated unit would not be possible for Hi-MD at current time as there are no mobile Hi-MD units released/announced as of yet. (Even the most current model MD HU that just came out from Sony is not Hi-MD ).

Other thing is even MDLP is hard to come by in car units, though there are some that offer it.

Personally I don't use MDLP and I'm probably not going to Hi-MD anytime soon either. I use my in-car MDX-400 MD changer for playing MDs in car Old skool? Yeah but works great for me

There are, as discussed above, other options to suit your needs though.

I have a combo CD/MD head unit (JVC KDMX3000) and the JVC 12-disc CD changer. Too bad JVC hasn't kept up with this product family and introduced an MDLP version of it yet. Of course it has an AUX IN and I hook my MZN10 up to that when I want to listen to MDLP tracks in the car. This is less satisfying of course, since I don't get to see the track titles going this route.

The JVC had almost the perfect feature set at the time, except that it only supported CD-Text in the changer, not in the in-dash CD slot. (Very stupid.) So my must-have list for a new head unit would be:

Single-DIN unit, both CD and Hi-MD support

Full CD-Text support (in the head unit, not just in the changer)

aux input

Expansion bus (in case I want both an MD changer and a CD changer later on)

engine speed-sensitive volume (JVC called this Audio Cruise Mode but it doesn't appear to be in their current products any more)

hmm...excuse me sir..weren't u just asking for a way to link MD to ur present Cassette Deck....well if that's the case u can purchase 1 of those car ready MDs or buy one of those link thingy where u push in the cassette n plug the end of the cable to the sourse like the MZN 707 NET MD came car ready..haven't heard of ne HI MD car ready units yet.. :ohmy:
